As the translations of Thalnos' Japanese name and title are unofficial, they may contain errors. <default>{{PAGENAME}}</default> Thalnos (Japanese: 魔導王ヴァン゠ファウンド, Madō-ō Ban Faundo [lit. "Wizard King Van Found"]) is a villain and boss in Lost Kingdoms.

Appearance

Thalnos appears with long, white hair that is unconventionally parted, tied, and draped down his torso. He wears one large tie at his chest and a smaller tie at his hip. He wears a large, grayish black coat with a collar that perks above his head, and with coat tails flaring outward below his waist. The mid-section of his coat has a repeating white triangle pattern going vertically, and around the backside of the collar. The pelvic region of his coat is a separate, triangular-shaped fabric adorned with a series of wavy orange lines and dragon-like symbols. Thalnos wears a double brace on his right thigh, just above his knee. His boots are metallic and sharply pointed at the toe, with leather flaps draped across the ankle and shin area. He appears very pale and bares gray and white-colored eyes. Thalnos wears his Runestone on his arm, similarly to a bracer, and ties it with a red band.

Lost Kingdoms

The Yyprek Mines

After Katia visits the Kendarie Castle, she is sent to the Yyprek Mines to retrieve the kingdoms stolen Runestone. When Katia reaches the end of the mine, the area Boss, Puppet Master, will notice Katia as a Runestone Bearer. Puppet Master will speak to Katia, stating that she will most likely die sooner or later by the Enchanter (Thalnos) and that she shouldn't care if he "accelerates her fate". Puppet Master is the first known character to have interacted with Thalnos. This is also the first time Thalnos is referenced under the title of "Enchanter". {| class="quote" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="border:1px solid white; background:#f8e9ae; tcolor:black; -moz-border-radius:7px; padding:0; margin:.5em 1em .5em 1em; width:auto" |style=color:#000; text-align:left;padding:0 10px;"| "The Enchanter would have killed you soon or later.. So you won't mind if I accelerate your fate!"
– Puppet Master, Yyprek Mines

Apothecary

After Katia clears through the Yyprek Mines and heads back to the Apothecary, Gurd will speak to Katia about the title of "Enchanter". She will ask Katia for clarification if the title Puppet Master said was in deed "The Enchanter". Gurd will then tell Katia that the title comes from an ancient pagan religion. {| class="quote" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="border:1px solid white; background:#f8e9ae; tcolor:black; -moz-border-radius:7px; padding:0; margin:.5em 1em .5em 1em; width:auto" |style=color:#000; text-align:left;padding:0 10px;"| "And you're sure the monster said "The Enchanter"? I've heard that name before. Let me see... Yes, in book about an ancient pagan religion..."
– Gurd, The Apothecary

Bernden Field

Around 1/3 of the way through the first game, Katia will head towards Bernden Field. In this area, a mention of Thalnos can be found. Near the area where three Red Chests and the stone commemorating the fallen of the Battle of Bernden Field are found, a Red Fairy will also be present. When interacting with the fairy, it will tell Katia that the Enchanter had destroyed the 5 kingdoms present in the other continent. {| class="quote" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="border:1px solid white; background:#f8e9ae; tcolor:black; -moz-border-radius:7px; padding:0; margin:.5em 1em .5em 1em; width:auto" |style=color:#000; text-align:left;padding:0 10px;"| "There are five kingdoms in this world, too. Don't you think that's interesting? The place I just came back from had five kingdoms as well... But the Enchanter destroyed all of them..."
– Red Fairy, Bernden Field

Apothecary

After Katia defeats Dracule in the Grenfoel Chruch, she will head back to the Apothecary. Here, Gurd will tell Katia that she found an ancient scroll containing information about a pagan religion. Gurd will then tell Katia that the scroll explains that the title of "Enchanter" was a name given to king, and that the title is one that is inherited, however, Gurd will also state that the title has never been held by a King in Argwyll—meaning that another continent exists in which other kings rule. {| class="quote" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="border:1px solid white; background:#f8e9ae; tcolor:black; -moz-border-radius:7px; padding:0; margin:.5em 1em .5em 1em; width:auto" |style=color:#000; text-align:left;padding:0 10px;"| "I've got something interesting for you... I found an ancient scroll from a pagan religion... According to the scroll, the Enchanter was a name given to a king. The title was inherited. But no king in Argwyll has ever used that title. That means there is another world out there..."
– Gurd, The Apothecary

Coliseum

During the later events of the first game, Helena will challenge Katia to a duel. Thalnos himself won't be mentioned by Helena until Katia defeats her in the Coliseum. Once Helena is defeated, she will tell Katia that the Enchanter (Thalnos) is responsible for the chaos in her continent. She will tell Katia that Thalnos had stolen the 5 Runestones from the other continent in an attempt to become the most powerful. Thalnos was also noted by Helena to have held her people hostage while forcing her to come to continent of Argwyll—the same continent in which Katia resides and the majority of Lost Kingdoms takes place in.

Apothecary

After Katia's defeat of Helena, she will head back to the Apothecary. Here, Gurd will tell Katia that the Enchanter is alive, and that he is after the continent of Argwyll, as well as Katia herself. {| class="quote" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="border:1px solid white; background:#f8e9ae; tcolor:black; -moz-border-radius:7px; padding:0; margin:.5em 1em .5em 1em; width:auto" |style=color:#000; text-align:left;padding:0 10px;"| "... So, the Enchanter is still alive. And he's after Argwyll... And you, apparently."
– Gurd, The Apothecary

Ruh-Arok Temple

Katia will visit Ruh-Arok Temple later on in the game. When visiting the temple, she will speak to the God of Creation at the end of the level. The God will tell Katia that someone had awakened it's brother, the God of Destruction, and that the ancient covenant has been broken. The God of Creation will then send Katia to face the God of Destruction, across the divide in the other continent.

Although not explicitly stated by the God of Creation during the encounter in the temple, it is later revealed that who the God was mentioning was Thalnos, and that it was him who awakened the God of Destruction.

Broch Black

Thalnos will finally be revealed in person to Katia near the end of the Broch Black level. Here, Thalnos will for the first time be referenced as "Thalnos", instead of "The Enchanter". After Katia finds and places the Stone of Darkness into the locked door, she will then be able to access the throne room after defeating a fixed amount of enemies. In the throne room, Thalnos will reveal himself. He will welcome the Princess and state that there is another way to settle the situation without violence, however, this would require Katia to accept Thalnos' offer to become his Queen. Although Katia does not have any spoken dialogue in Lost Kingdoms, it is suggested that she refuses his offer. After the refusal, Thalnos will challenge Katia to a duel—believing that his 5 Runestones in combination with Katia's 5 Runestones would make him the most powerful being in the world.

After Katia defeats Thalnos, it is revealed that he is a vessel for the God of Destruction. In his weakened state, the God will emerge from the Enchanters body, possibly killing him in the process.

Boss

Thalnos is the second to last boss within Lost Kingdoms. He is located at the very end of the Broch Black stage, sitting atop his throne. A cutscene will be prompted when meeting him in that area. In order to access this room, Katia will first need to retrieve the Stone of Darkness. It can be found in a chest on a floating platform, adjacent to another chest with a red fairy inside. After using the stone on the locked door, Katia gains access to the final area where she is then halted by a door of fire. To break the fire seal, Katia must defeat the powerful monsters to the left and right, allowing access to Thalnos.

Thalnos has a total HP of 200. His deck contains Steel Skeleton, Night Mare, Elephant King, Demon Lord, Fairy, Necromancer, Wizard, and Dragon Knight.
