{{Card_Template}}The Unicorn (Japanese: ユニコーン, Unicorn) is a Wood attribute creature and a Summons type card introduced in Lost Kingdoms.

The Unicorn is card number 008 in both Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II, though all other aspects of the card vary greatly between the games.

Appearance

In Lost Kingdoms, the Unicorn appears similarly to a traditional depiction of a unicorn: a white horse with a horn on its forehead. Its mane, tail, and parts of its fur where its legs attach to its body are yellow, and it has green markings on its face.

While the Unicorn's mane, tail, and leg fur appear to be made of hair on its model, the card art makes it appear as if these are composed of yellow green petals or leaves.

Obtainability

  • By transforming a Fenril card with 1000 EXP
  • By transforming a Water Bird with 700 EXP
  • By receiving it as a reward in Lumsted. Obtained by winning 24-25 battles before cleansing the last well.
  • By collecting a card on the ground at Lake Bestriel. This card is found at the bottom of the ruins on the lake.
  • By opening a chest in Hupon-Jen. This card is found in the middle of a row of 3 chests in an area between 4 arenas. This area can be entered once Katia touches the totem pole switch.
  • By choosing one in the Level Bonus of Hupon-Jen. Only 1 Unicorn card is available.
  • By copying one using 3500 EXP

As a Card

In its original form, the Unicorn is a Wood attribute, Summons-type monster. Meaning that it can be used only once for a single, large effect. When summoned, it will restore 50% of the user's maximum HP, all of their discarded cards and between 1 and 5 fully used cards. In this respect, it is neither the best HP restoration card nor the best card restoration card but provides a healthy balance of the two effects. And, at a cost of only 6 Magic Stones, it is almost strictly better than the Fairy.Like other Summons which unconditionally restore HP and/or cards, the Unicorn is banned under the 2 Player Fair Play Rule.

As a Monster

The Unicorn does not appear as an enemy monster.

Other Notable Appearances

  • The Unicorn makes an appearance on the cover of the RUNE Official Perfect Guide.
  • Even though the Unicorn in Lost Kingdoms II is a different card monster, the Lost Kingdoms version of the Unicorn makes an appearance in one of two versions of a piece of official art for RUNE II, the Japanese version of the sequel. Both versions of this art depict Tara surrounded by many monsters, but the version where the Unicorn's original form appears shows several other monsters taken from the art for the cards in the original Lost Kingdoms game. In this image, the Unicorn can be seen behind Tara's arms.

Trivia

  • While it is currently unclear if this is just a translation issue, the card text in Lost Kingdoms seems to incorrectly refer to its protagonist, Katia, with a male pronoun.

Likewise, it is also not one of the four Sacred Beast monsters, despite what that text might imply.

{{Card_Template}}The Unicorn (Japanese: ユニコーン, Unicorn) returns in Lost Kingdoms II. It was changed into Water, attribute creature and a Transform, Jumper type card.

The Unicorn is card number 008 in both Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II, though all other aspects of the card vary greatly between the games.

Appearance

In Lost Kingdoms II, the Unicorn takes the form of a woman with a lilac complexion and the ears and legs of a blue horse. A large horn decorated with three golden rings grows from her forehead. The Unicorn wears a cyan dress with a smaller white horn on each shoulder, and has long purple hair that wraps around her torso and forms a tail-like sash.

Obtainability

  • By opening a chest in Royal Tower, Middle. Found behind a blue forcefield past Leod VIII. To reach the chest, the switch in the room with the Behemoth must be pulled before defeating Leod VIII. If he is defeated before the switch is pulled, the switch will stop working, so the forcefield will be impossible to deactivate.
  • By opening a chest in Royal Tower, Upper. Found close to the hanging mass in the 1st traversable large room.
  • By upgrading a Night Mare with 36000 EXP
  • By importing cards from a Lost Kingdoms save file after clearing Sacred Battle Arena 2. The option to do this can only be taken once.
  • By copying one using 45000 EXP

As a Card

For the second game, the Unicorn has been reworked to be a Water attribute, Transform type monster with a completely different visual design. Because of this, the player is now able to transform into a new interpretation of the Unicorn card, which will periodically restore their HP for as long as it remains active.

This HP restoration comes with the cost of slow movement, however, and, while the card does possess a spinning attack known as "Healing Wing", that attack will not increase the restoration amount or frequency in any way. It is exclusively a damage dealing move.

The Unicorn's B button action is rather more accurately and succinctly named, simply being labelled "Jump", but this comes with its own issues. The same term is used for multiple transform card abilities, some of which allow the player to jump across large gaps and some of which allow them to reach high up locations. There is, unfortunately, no indication of which jump will be performed until the player attempts it.

In the case of the Unicorn, however, it performs a high jump.

It is worth noting, however, that the Unicorn's jump is not high enough to navigate the higher cliffs in the Fossil Boneyard.

As a Monster

The Unicorn does not appear as an enemy monster.
