Cockatrice

{{Card_Template}}The Cockatrice (Japanese: コカトリス, Cockatrice) is a Wood attribute creature and a Weapon type card introduced in Lost Kingdoms.

Two Cockatrices can be fought in an optional battle in Dahl-Nok Valley once their three eggs have been destroyed.

Appearance

The Cockatrice is a large rooster about the size of a regular human. They have long snake-like necks and a lizard-style tail, likely a reference to the legendary Basilisk which has a similar petrification power to a Cockatrice.

Obtainability

• By transforming a Dark Raven card with 3000 EXP.
• By transforming a Griffin using 700 EXP.
• By purchasing one at the Apothecary for 750G. Available after completing Kendarie Castle and Rohbach until clearing the Castle of Wyht and Lumsted, after completing the Coliseum and Lake Bestriel or Mt. Jarndunn until 22 levels are cleared, and after beating the game.
• By capturing one in Dahl-Nok Valley.
• By opening a chest in Dahl-Nok Valley, behind petrified trees at the end of the level. Defeating the Cockatrices will make the trees disappear.
• By receiving it as a reward in Lumsted. Obtained by winning 14-18 battles before purifying the 4^th well.
• By opening a chest in the Castle of Wyht, in a row of two chests on the platform above the left elevator on the first floor. This card is in the chest farthest from the elevator.
• By opening a chest in Hupon-Jen, in a row of three chests in the area with the stone pillar. This card is in the left chest.
• By copying one using 2000 EXP.

As a Card

Whilst capturing a Cockatrice early on is quite tricky, they can prove to be powerful allies. A Cockatrice has a slow attack animation, though the move itself has decent range. This can make it tricky to land on fast enemies but extremely good against larger foes. It's relatively low cost makes it a good go-to weapon later in the game.

Even if you do not desire using the Cockatrice as a Weapon, capturing it can still be worthwhile as they are worth a solid 500 Gold per card. Early on this can be a boon, as when you capture a card you can keep it if you exit a level.

As a Monster

As an enemy, Cockatrice are rather difficult to deal with. This is especially true if you have no Decoy Action monsters or are trying to capture them. The Beak of Stone has a short range but nearly always turns Katia into a lovely marble statue. They will then follow this up with Ramming Attacks until the spell wears off. If you don't want to end up gravel- er, grovelling, take them down quickly or use a distraction monster.

Three Cockatrices can be fought in an optional boss fight in Ruldo Forest after the level has been completed once. They cannot be found again after they have been defeated.
