Malestroms can be found as enemies in Lake Bestriel. A guaranteed encounter with one is on the island past the first magic bridge.

Appearance

The Maelstrom is an odd, blue and purple creature with an iridescent sheen. It has two eyes, and it somewhat resembles a swirling vortex of water.

Obtainability

  • By finding a hidden card in Blessoon. Found in the fountain. Can be obtained after draining the fountain by turning the valve left once, then right 3 times.
  • By opening a chest in Shayel Passage. Found on the 1st floor, in a row of two chests in the room blocked by a gate close to the level's exit. This card is in the chest closest to the wall lamp.
  • By transforming a Flayer Spawn card with 1000 EXP
  • By transforming a Kitty Trap card with 1000 EXP
  • By capturing one at Lake Bestriel
  • By choosing one in the Level Bonus for Lake Bestriel. 3 Maelstrom cards are available.
  • By opening a chest at Terjon Temple. Found in the right chest in a row of 3, in the area with a windmill on the way to the 2nd switch.
  • By copying one using 1500 EXP

  • The Maelstrom makes an apprearance in one of two versions of the official art for RUNE II, the Japanese version of Lost Kingdoms II, that shows Tara surrounded by many monsters. The version the Maelstrom is found in shows several monsters taken from the art of their cards in the original Lost Kingdoms game, the Maelstrom included. In this image, it can be found behind the Elf's bow and one of the Vouivre's wings.

Maelstroms can be found as enemies in Level 6 of the Proving Grounds.

Obtainability

  • By opening a chest in the Lower Chambers. Found in the 3rd room on the side of the wall facing the entrance. Can only be obtained when the sluice gate in the Upper Chambers is up, and by using a Flying, Transform type card to reach it.
  • By opening a chest in the Lower Chambers. Found in the 3rd room , down the stairs, in the dead end between the entrance and the left wall. Can only be obtained when the sluice gate in the Upper Chambers is down.
  • By capturing one in Level 6 of the Proving Grounds.
  • By choosing its card in the Level Bonus for Level 6 of the Proving Grounds. Only 1 Maelstrom card is available. This Level Bonus can be accessed whenever the level is cleared with at least 1 rating star.
  • By importing cards from a Lost Kingdoms save file after clearing Sacred Battle Arena 2. This can only be done once.
  • By copying one using 5000 EXP
