{{Card_Template}}The Flayer Spawn (Japanese: フレアブレイン, Flayer Brain) is a Fire attribute creature and Summons type card in Lost Kingdoms.

Flayer Spawn can be found as enemies in Shayel Passage. Several of these fight alongside a Mind Flayer during the boss battle of that same level.

Appearance

The Flayer Spawn resembles a floating brain in a red bubble or gelatinous egg. It has thin tentacles hanging from underneath its brain, making it appear somewhat like a jellyfish.

Obtainability

  • By transforming a Maelstrom card with 1000 EXP
  • By transforming a Blood Bush card with 1000 EXP
  • By purchasing from Shop 3 or 11 at the Apothecary for 90G
  • By capturing a Flayer Spawn in Shayel Passage
  • By receiving the card as a reward in Lumsted. Given for winning 0-2 battles before cleansing the 4th well.
  • By copying a Flayer Spawn card using 1000 EXP

Strategies

The Flayer Spawn is a slow-moving creature that isn't much of a threat on its own. However, its Electric Shock attack has a decent range and carries a chance of paralysis.

As a Monster

The Flayer Spawn is more of an annoyance than a threat. It is a slow-moving monster that has little attack power, Hit Points, or defense, so it is easily defeated. The only thing to watch out for is that it may induce paralysis with its Electric Shock attack. The sewer water in Shayel Passage already impedes movement speed, so if Katia is effected by it, it will slow her down even more, making it harder to attack and dodge enemy monsters.

Trivia

  • The Flayer Spawn’s design appears to be based not off a Mind Flayer, but a different Dungeons and Dragons monster: the Grell. A Grell resembles a floating, tentacled brain with a beak, and possesses strange, eldritch powers.

Strategies

The Flayer Spawn is a weak, slow-moving creature that isn't much of a threat on its own. However, its Electric Shock skill has a decent range and carries a chance of paralysis. In Lost Kingdoms II, this attack may also instantly destroy Mech attribute creatures.

As a Card

The Flayer Spawn's change in typing from Summons to Weapon gives it one additional use per card, making it more convenient to have in one's deck than it was in the first game. The Electric Shock skill of the Flayer Spawn may be weak, but it can paralyze, and it has a chance to kill Mech attribute monsters instantly.

Since the attack of the Flayer Spawn is now able to destroy Mech attribute enemies in one hit, it is very useful for levels that have a high number of them, such as Kendarie Fortress.

As a Monster

The Flayer Spawn is more of an annoyance than a threat. It is a slow-moving monster that has little attack power, Hit Points, or defense, so it is easily defeated. The only things to watch out for is what its Electric Shock skill can do to its opponents, as it has a chance to induce paralysis, and it can instantly kill Mech creatures. If Tara is effected by this attack, it will be more difficult to attack and dodge enemy monsters and to avoid the harmful orbs of pink light in the Lower Chambers.
