They are born blue. As blue fairies, their bodies are still partly in the ethereal plane.
They cannot form speech, and will disappear if touched by a human.
As they grow older, they evolve into red fairies. They take on solid form, and learn to speak.
As red fairies join together, they become larger and more intelligent.
The merging process allows them to pool the knowledge they acquired as individuals.
